Wright was born August 16, 1927, in Louisville, Georgia to the late Sonnie Thompson and Nola Thompson.

Wright moved to Belle Glade, Florida in 1958. He started working at Lakeshore Grows Packing House in the 1960's. Wright transferred to Sam Knight & Son Farm in 1970 as a mechanic where he retired in 2007.

In 2003 he joined in Union with Margaret Saddler Thompson. Wright was a faithful and devoted husband and father. He enjoyed the pleasure of fishing and playing with his grandchildren.

Wright will forever be cherished by his loving sons: Sonnie L. Thompson (Ketthie), Luke Wright Thompson (Natanin), Wright Thompson Jr. (Ebony), Willie James Gibbons, Philip Thompson, Marcus E. Saddler (Louqasha), Paris Woods, Sameul Smith (Shila), Preceded him in death Wright Thompson Jr., and Steven Gibbons; Daughters: Angel Thompson, Audrey Gibbons preceded him in death Essie Daniels; Wright beautiful sisters: Julia Mae Gibbons and Elizabeth Kindall. Preceded him in death, Susie, Cora Lee, Reba, Missouri and Willie Mae; Brothers all preceded him in death Garfield, Jonny, Frank, Tommy and Ray; Sister-in-laws: Lucille Clemons, Barbara Saddler, and Dorothy Lovett; Brother-in-laws: Olive Brown, Jimmie Saddler, John (JC) Saddler, and Reginal Jones (Grace); Wright loved all his grands and great grandchildren; A host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. Special nieces: Cassandra Gibbons and Rounisha Saddler; Favorite cousin: Cal Jackson (Sam).
