Obituary
Voncille Minatee Burden came into the world as a ray of sunshine and warmth on a cold winter day. January 14, 1939, Savannah and Samuel Minatee (preceded her in death) was filled with joy at the sight of her beautiful smile and bright shining eyes. She was born in Camilla, Georgia as the third child of four siblings: Samuel Jr., Willerdean and Anderson (all preceded her in death).
Voncille moved to Clewiston, Florida in 1949 and completed primary and secondary school at Harlem Academy where she excelled in academics and basketball. She loved to cook and to many she was known as the "Cake Lady". Her love of cooking and alluring smile captured the heart of John Burden, and they spent 58 years together before he went home to be with the Lord.
She was employed at various companies including Glades Restaurant, South Bay Growers, and ended her career at Hendry County School Board after dedicating over 27 years of excellent service.
Voncille dedicated her life to Christ at an early age. She became a faithful member of Greater Friendship Missionary Baptist Church and served as a member of the Trustee Board, Choir, Hospitality, and Pastor's Aid Committee. During her spare time, she cherished the attention and humor of her friends, Mrs. Sue, Mrs. Bert, Mrs. Marie, and Mrs. Helena at the Senior Citizen Center.
On June 28, 2025, Voncille took leave from her earthly home to transition to her heavenly home surrounded by her loving children.
Voncille leaves loving memories for her loved ones and friends to cherish forever. Voncille loyal and devoted sons and daughters, Joseph Williams Sr. (Patricia) Clewiston, FL, Aaron Williams Sr. (Evelyn) Cape Coral, FL, Karen Johnson Clewiston, FL, John Burden Jr. (Kendra) Fort Lauderdale, FL and Sondra Burden, Clewiston, FL, and daughters, Lisa Burden and Gleneva McQueen who preceded her in death. She became a surrogate mother to Stanley, Avis, Edward, Tonya, and April in September 2021. Voncille also leaves 25 grandchildren and great grandchildren, a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, two godchildren, Jemia Kinsey, Donovan Baker and a lifelong friend, Florine Jeffery. They will all remember her smile, kind and loving spirit, and those cakes and cookies.
