Obituary

The stars became brighter on August 28, 2026.

Tarry Edwards leaves behind her loving husband, Kenneth Edwards; her devoted daughter, Tabreeka C. Elmore; and her adoring grandson, Austin Hayse Elmore.

Tarry was born on April 25, 1948, in Pahokee, Florida, to the late Karean Henderson and Charles Anderson. She was raised and educated in Pahokee under the loving guidance of her grandmother. After graduating from high school, she moved to Newark, New Jersey, to begin her adult life near her mother.

Tarry later married Merkytroy Seward, who preceded her in death in 1989. From their union came their only child, Tabreeka Cherette Seward. In 2015, Tarry married Kenneth Edwards in a beautiful surprise ceremony surrounded by family. Together, they built a loving life in Georgia, where they enjoyed their retirement years.

Tarry dedicated thirty-four years to Bell Telephone, now known as Verizon. As a payroll officer and mentor, she formed lasting friendships and became a confidante and source of strength to many. Her life reflected the words, “A friend loves at all times” (Proverbs 17:17).

Tarry touched countless lives through her prize-winning cooking, involvement in social groups and sports clubs, and her natural ability to organize, lead, and bring people together. She never forgot a birthday, holiday, milestone, or accomplishment. Through cards, gifts, notes, encouragement, and motivational scriptures, she made people feel remembered, valued, and loved.

Family was always at the center of Tarry’s heart. She cherished her husband, daughter, grandson, and extended family, sharing her love and encouragement generously. Her powerful spirit, strength, determination, generosity, and unforgettable personality left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her.

Today, we celebrate Tarry’s life with stories, tears, laughter, and gratitude. Though we deeply miss her, we hold firmly to God’s promise:

“To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord” (2 Corinthians 5:8).

Tarry’s spirit lives on in every life she touched, every kindness she shared, every word of encouragement she offered, and every cherished memory she leaves behind.

The imprint of her love is forever. May her memory continue to bless and inspire us to love one another as deeply and generously as she did.
