The life Story of
Sara Rogers

A beautiful candle named Sara Crayton was lit by Anthony and Pinkie Crayton on August 7th, 1923. Sara was united in marriage to the late Marion Rogers in 1953 while residing in South Bay, Florida.

Sara's candle shone through her many gifts and talents. She was an excellent seamstress, taught by her mother, and perfected her craft while working for Union Carbide in Niagara Falls, New York. Her light also glowed brightly through her artistry in pottery — a true testament to her creativity and grace. God blessed her to shine brightly as a strong Black woman of her time.

Sara dedicated her life to Christ at an early age and later reaffirmed her faith by joining New Bethel A.M.E. Church, where she served faithfully until her health declined.

She was a devoted wife and loving mother of twelve children — twelve small candles, though hers burned longer than nine. Preceding her in death are her sons: Benny Ramon, Rufus Ramon, Willie Henry Devereux, Lee Davis Sheridan, Roy Rogers, and Alvin Rogers; and daughters: Nancy Crayton, Pinkie Wheeler, and Beverly Rogers.

Sara's candle went out on October 11th, 2025 — some 102 years later. She leaves to cherish her memory three beloved children: Marion Hargrove, Jeanette Rogers, and Bobby Ramon, along with a special son, Sidney Clark Jr. She is also survived by 21 grandchildren, over 35 great-grandchildren, and a host of relatives, friends, and her cherished church family.

Her light may have dimmed on earth, but it will forever shine in the hearts of those who loved her.
