In 1971 Odie graduated from Glades Central Community High School, top of his class.  After graduating high school, Odie enrolled in Florida Memorial College in Miami, FL. Upon completion of college, Odie enlisted in the US Army, where he served the majority of his time in Germany as a Medic. He was referred to as "Doc." Odie was honorably discharged after serving his 4 year active duty enlistment. After returning to his home town of South Bay, Fl, Odie joined the fire department where he served as fire chief.
