Her Life and Legacy
Deaconess Nancy Thompkins Crawford, eighty-four years young departed this life on Friday, May 13, 2016 (her father's birthday). She was born in Madison County, Florida to Porter Sr. and Julia Moore Thompkins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters, Effie Harper, Emma Roland, Nina Chisem and Mary Howard; three brothers, Porter Thompkins, Jr., Tommie L. Thompkins and Theodore Thompkins.
Nancy was a graduate of Madison County Training School and Florida A & M University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education.
She loved her church. For many years she sang in the choir and served as a stewardess. However, she was most proud of her consecration as a Deaconess by Bishop McKinley Young.
She leaves to cherish her memories three loving sisters, Mattie (Kenny) Townsend, Juanita (Charles) Smith and Julia T. Vereen; her sister-in-law, Correne Thompkins; one aunt, Adelaide Moore; two God-daughters, Cathy Davis and Renee Fisher; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and sorrowing friends.
