Lise Charles David affectionately known as "Mommy Lise" passed away at Glades Health Care Center on Saturday, January 11, 2020, at the age of 89.

Mommy Lise was born March 11, 1930, to the late Simon Charles and Frannette Bazile Charles in Jacmel, Haiti.  She was raised in Jacmel, Haiti until she moved to Nassau, Bahamas in 1957. Mommy Lise was an entrepreneur. She transported goods from Haiti to the Bahamas until her boat crashed in 1968. She lost her business, but she did not lose her heart and her will to move forward in her quest to help people. Mommy Lise assisted many to migrate from the Bahamas to the United States. In 1980, she relocated to Belle Glade, Florida to live among other Haitians.

Mommy Lise was a pillar in the community of Belle Glade. If a neighbor needed food, then Mommy Lise fed them. If someone needed a place to stay, then Mommy Lise opened her doors and provided shelter free of charge. She was the definition of giving – whether you wanted it or not. Her love and influence will forever remain in the lives of all who knew her. She remained in Belle Glade until her death.

She is preceded in death by her daughter Rose-Marie Charles; parents: Simon Charles and Frannette Bazile Charles; sisters: Dieudone Charles, Tibo Charles, and Mansoune Charles.

She is lovingly remembered by her children: Renold David and Veronique David; her sisters: Jermaine Charles, Victoire Charles, Juliene Charles; grandchildren: Brenda Carter, Linda C. Jolicoeur, Villardouin Leconte, Brianna-Marie Hall,  D'Ayja C. David, Veronica David; her great-grandchildren: Victoria Carter, Jada Jolicoeur, Laila Jolicoeur, Logan Jolicoeur, Julian Jolicoeur; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and special friends: Mr. Hereon Delva and Mrs. Mary Delva.
