Leslie F. Jennings, Sr., or Jennings as all knew him, was born on May 8, 1943 in Bellas Gate, Saint Catherine, Jamaica to Margaret Hulcome and Oscar Jennings. He was the oldest of six children. Jennings spent his childhood in Bellas Gate surrounded by the love and joy of his family and friends. He was especially close to his beloved grandfather, Isaiah Hulcome.
Leslie moved from Jamaica to Florida in his early 20s. He made his home in Arcadia, Florida and worked as a citrus farmer. He eventually moved to Bryant, FL where he worked for the US Sugar Corporation.
On March 25, 1977, Leslie married the love of his life: Nellie Mae Jennings in Bryant, FL. Jennings and Nellie remained in holy matrimony until June 24, 2012 when Nellie succumbed to cancer. He was a devoted and loving caregiver to his ailing wife and remained by her side faithfully. He was the proud father of three children: Leslie Jr., Sonja, and Alishia.
Jennings maintained an active life. He loved fishing and spending time with his many friends and family. He loved spending time outdoors and was very proud of his garden and his home. After losing Nellie, Jennings tried to remain strong and regularly spoke of his love for his wife. He joined her in death on August 3, 2015. His parents, his sister, Irene, and his cherished in-laws, Bennie and Aucillia Everett, also preceded him in death.
Jennings is survived by his children: Leslie Jennings, Jr. and Sonja Jennings of Arcadia, FL and Alishia Jennings of Providence, RI; his stepdaughter: Winifred Hill of Minter, AL; his siblings: Amy Stoddart of Old Harbour, Jamaica; Derrick Watts (Judith) of Kingston, Jamaica; Daslyn Burey (Baldwin) of New York, NY; and Hopeton Watts (Marcia) of Loganville, Georgia. He also leaves behind four grandchildren: Shacarra Jennings, Latrevious Jennings, Quaniqua Jennings, LaShaniqua Young, and Roya Hill as well as his great-granddaughter, Promise Ezell. He also leaves behind many wonderful friends whom he loved and cared for dearly.
