In Loving Memory of Larry Smith

Larry Smith, a beloved son, brother, father, grandfather, and pillar of his community, earned his wings on August 30, 2023, at the age of 65 in Atlantis, Florida. He leaves behind a legacy of love, hard work, and generosity that will forever live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him.

Larry was born on July 26, 1958, to the late Willie and Frances Smith, and he grew up in the tight-knit community of Pahokee. He received his education from Pahokee High School, Palm Beach State College, and Eastern Arizona College, setting a strong foundation for his future endeavors.

Larry was a faithful member of the Abiding Faith Church of God in Pahokee, where his commitment to his faith and his church community was unwavering.

In his best days, Larry was a loving husband to his former wife and friend, Dorothy Smith, and a devoted father to their two daughters, Tina Watson(Gregory)  and Latonya Smith Clark (Melvin). His role as a grandfather brought him immense joy, and he cherished his four grandchildren: Edkeisha Tomlin(Justin), Eddie Jones (Shelia), Antiuna Bowie, and Barbara Curry.

He was preceded in death by three of his nine siblings: Willie J, Mary Angel and Tressica.   Larry was also a dedicated brother to Darrell Smith (Carol) and five sisters: Beulah Godwin(Felton), Willie Jo Young (Jerome), Cynthia Smith, Karol Robertson (L.C), and Merris Smith. He also leaves behind a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and countless friends.

Larry was the heart and soul of the family's sod company, "Sunshine Sod." He tirelessly tended to every aspect of the business, from planting and watering to ensuring the highest quality product. He led, mentored, hired, fired, transported staff, and managed payroll. He even personally cut, rolled, and stacked sod by hand, demonstrating his extraordinary work ethic and dedication.

Known for his hardworking nature, kindness, and generosity, Larry was always eager to give back to his community, support his family, and serve the Lord. He had a deep love for the outdoors, whether it was tending to his yard, leisurely biking, or taking strolls through the neighborhood.

Larry had a knack for brightening everyone's day with a spiritual word of encouragement, a smile, or a joke, often accompanied by his favorite meal—a whopper and a Pepsi. His infectious spirit and willingness to share, no matter how big or small, endeared him to all who crossed his path.

Larry Smith's departure has left a void in our hearts, but his memory will forever shine as a beacon of love, hard work, and selflessness. As we celebrate his life and legacy, let us remember the profound impact he had on all of us and the enduring lessons he leaves behind. Larry will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
