Obituary

Mrs. Johnnie Mae Davis was the youngest child of William Billy Townsend and Ollie Mae Bradley Townsend.  Raised in Pavo, Georgia, Johnnie Mae married her husband, William Davis and began their family.  She had three children: Lavern Johnson, Vernell Davis, and Christian Davis.   Her parents and siblings preceded her in death. Her husband and children preceded her in death.

In 1950, William and Johnnie Mae, along with their oldest daughter relocated to Belle Glade, Florida.  For the next 43 years, Johnnie Mae became "Big Mama" to   not only her grandchildren, but to numerous children in the neighborhood. An enthusiastic caregiver, she had a passion for providing and being a great part of that 'village needed to raise a child. '  Parents could go to work and know that their children were safe in her care.

Known as a happy individual, Johnnie Mae enjoyed making others laugh with stories of her childhood. She also enjoyed cooking, sewing, and playing bingo with her friends.

In 2017, Johnnie Mae was diagnosed with a terminal illness. She relocated to Orlando, Florida with a granddaughter, Natasha (who passed in 2018).

Cherishing her memory are:

Grandchildren: Charles (Omecia) Johnson & Betty Egbert Johnson

Great-Granddaughters: Deidre Larry Carswell,  Darlishia Johnson,   Latavia Johnson,  Artists Burnett, Tyriel Johnson, Keanna Johnson, Charmecia Johnson, & Charquandra Johnson
