THE LIFE AND LEGACY OF SIS ICYNETH

A TIME TO BE BORN...

Icyneth Lenoir Schoburgh was born on February 20, 1942, in the serene and beautiful island of White
Marl, St. Catherine, Jamaica. To some, she was known affectionately as Sister Icy, Auntie, Mother
Schoburgh, Missionary Schoburgh or Dr. Schoburgh – but most importantly she was a mom,
grandmother and devoted wife.
Sister Icy was an only child born to the late Felix and Mildred Johnson who preceded her in death. Her
parents were instrumental in instilling the values we knew her to have upheld – kindness, resilience, and
compassion. It would be these values that would guide her through life, passing them down to her
children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren as well as help shape her into the remarkable woman
she has become.
Many knew Sister Icy to be a beacon of her community; even from a young age she demonstrated love
and warmth to all who would come to know her.

A TIME TO GROW…
Growing up in Jamaica, Icyneth attended Kentish All Age School. It was there where she would develop a
love of learning and deep sense of community. She was enriched in the vibrant cultures and rich
traditions of Jamaica, and it was these traditions that she continued to carry with her even when she left
her home. Her Christian Faith was also very important to her she was a member of Mizpah Baptist
Church while in Jamaica
July 1972 would mark a significant moment of her life, marrying her true love Elijah Schoburgh (though
y'all may have known him as Scoby). Together their love continued to blossom in the garden of their
union; tended by their deep commitment and unwavering support to one another, mutual respect,
shared dreams and blessed by God.
With Elijah by her side, together they faced life's challenges. They built a life together, raised beautiful
children and filled their home with love and cherished memories. Their love for each other was very
strong and endured the test of time.
Three years later, on April 30, Icyneth embarked on a new chapter in her life – immigrating to the United
States and moving to the city of Belle Glade, Florida. Driven with the desire to provide a better future for
her family, this was yet another example of how courageous and determined she was. Over time,
Icyneth and Elijah worked toward migrating their children to the United States.
No matter where she lived, whether it be in Jamaica or in the U.S., one thing remained consistent – it
was making sure that her children were raised with the word of God, ensuring that prayer and devotion
to the Lord was always top of mind.
When she came to the U.S., she initially worked as a housemaid – she always maintained a good work
ethic and dedication to whatever she put her mind to. She eventually came to work at A Duda & Sons
Inc. In her role she took pride in her work and was so diligent that she received perfect attendance.

However, it was her career as a nursing assistant that truly allowed her compassionate nature to truly
shine. She was known for her kindness and empathy for the countless lives she's touched. She continued
to work as a nursing assistant until her retirement in 2003.
In 2000 Icyneth and Elijah achieved a significant milestone by purchasing their first home in West Palm
Beach and they took immense pride for the work it took for them to achieve this American dream. If
you've been to their home, you'd know that it was always filled with love and warmth; friends and
family were always welcomed. Laughter would echo throughout the halls of the home, and you'd be
engulphed with the aroma of a home cooked meal. Icyneth's home reflected her generous spirit and
embodied her love for her friends and family.
Unfortunately, in 2003 tragedy struck when her husband Elijah passed away. Despite such a momentous
loss, Icyneth's love and faith in God never faltered. Even in death, she continued to honor his memory
and legacy.

A TIME TO LEAD WITH FAITH
Faith was a cornerstone of her life. For 30 years, Icyneth was a devoted member of the Joy of Living
Church Worship Center – under the leadership of the late Reverend Eustis Douglas and Dr. Iris Douglas.
She was an active member of her church and led her choir with grace and a strong love of the word of
God. If you've attended her church, you'd recognize her melodic and heartfelt voice. She used her voice
to uplift the spirits of all who heard her sing and preach the gospel. She was a lifelong learner, always
seeking to deepen her understanding and strengthen her faith; in fact, in addition to her work with her
ministry, Icyneth also received her Doctorate in Ministry.
Continuing to uphold her faith, she held a weekly Christian program on the radio in Belle Glade WSWN,
there she would preach and sing, and her voice brought joy to many listeners.
Upon her retirement in 2003, it marked a new chapter in her life – one where she could fully embrace
her new role as a steward in her community. If you've gotten to know Icyneth you'd know her to have
an infectious personality and a love for making new friends. She was a beloved figure in her community,
always ready to lend a helping hand or share a kind word.

A TIME TO GO HOME TO BE WITH THE LORD…
Unfortunately, on January 7, 2025, Icyneth passed away at the age of 83. Her departure left a void in the
hearts of her family and friends, but through all of us, her memory will continue to live on. Icyneth lived
a life where she demonstrated the power of love, resilience, and compassion toward others. Icyneth will
be remembered for her love, kindness, and lively spirit toward all who've had the privilege of knowing
her.

A TIME OF REMEMBRANCE…
Icyneth's family was the center of her world. She was a loving mother to her 8 children: GG, Dar, Doxie,
Dave, Dixie, Dennis, Denton, and Denise. Her love extended to her sons and daughters-in-law: Peter,
Jeffrey, Alexia, Romanda, Nerine, Arlene, and Lesly. Icyneth's family continued to grow, and she was
blessed with 32 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. Her home was always filled with laughter,
love, and the joyful chaos of family gatherings. She took immense pride in her family and cherished
every moment spent with them

I heard a loud shout from the throne, saying, Look God's Home is now among his people! He will live
with them, and they will be his people. God himself will be with them. He will wipe every tear from their
eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever.
