Godfrey
Edgecomb
Mar 6, 1938 — Sep 2, 2023
Belle Glade
The late Godfrey Edgecomb was born on March 6, 1938, in Deadman's Cay, Long Island to Earl Edgecomb and Olive Armbrister. Godfrey had 2 brothers, Ansel Armbrister (preceded him in death), one stepbrother, Edward Major (Nassau, Bahamas). Godfrey departed this life on September 2, 2023.
Godfrey received his education at Buckley's All Age School, Long Island and at the tender age of 17, moved to the United States as a laborer. He was a hard worker who sought to improve his skills. After acquiring the necessary training, he spent most of his employment as a skilled mechanic.
In the mid-1950s Godfrey met Frances Adams, the love of his life. They were united in holy matrimony on April 26, 1957. This union resulted in the birth of 3 handsome sons.
Godfrey dedicated his life to his faith, family, and a strong work ethic. His unwavering belief in God, guided his entire life. In conversations with him, he often said, "Stay close to the Lord, and the Lord will stay close to you." His sons were provided with a stellar example of how a heavenly father loves his kids.
Godfrey was a longtime active member of Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church, in Belle Glade. Returning to his childhood roots, he later became a member of the St. Philip Benizi Catholic Church, where he served until his death.
With a smile, Godfrey was always ready and willing to help others. He was the first on the scene if your car was broken down on the side of the road, or if you just needed a listening ear. You would often experience his infectious laugh as he told a story or two along the way!
Godfrey is survived by his 3 devoted sons: Earl Edgecomb (Frances), Port St. Lucie, FL, Darren Edgecomb (Linda), Royal Palm Beach, FL and Brian Edgecomb, Lake Worth, FL. In addition, he leaves 4 grandchildren: Desmond Edgecomb, Atlanta, GA, Ronald Edgecomb (Maryam), Port St. Lucie, FL, Danielle Edgecomb, West Palm Beach, FL, and Kamille Smith (Kenneth), Boynton Beach, FL. He is also survived by four great grandchildren: Isaac, Micah, & Jaden Edgecomb, Sumter, South Carolina; Adam Robinson, Port St. Lucie, FL. Godfrey is also survived by sisters-in-law Dorothy Montgomery, Indiantown, FL and Brenda Armbrister, Nassau, Bahamas; a special cousin, Ted Rahming, Nassau, Bahamas. Godfrey leaves memories with his 2 godsons: Taurus and Taurance Lovely. Finally, he leaves a host of cousins, relatives and friends who love and adore him.
