Obituary

A Time to Live:

George O. Bookal, fondly known as "Bookie", was born on December 4, 1934 in Shrewsbury St. Elizabeth, Jamaica to the late James Bookal and Mary Spence-Bookal. He mastered the trade of tailoring and was a well-known local disc jockey (DJ). George traveled to the United States in the early 1960's as a seasonal sugarcane worker and mess hall cook for the United States Sugar Corporation. He later married, obtained residency, and permanent employment serving as the camp foreman at Benbow Village for 40 years until his retirement in 2000. He joined Mount Calvary Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Dwayne E. Brown where he faithfully attended until his health declined.

A Time to Go Home:
George resided in Clewiston, FL until he was called home to be with the Lord on Wednesday November 23, 2016.

A Time to Celebrate:
George is survived by his loving wife of 26 years Agnes R. Bookal; Six children: Michael (Almena), Hiram (Jennifer), Pauline (Leonard), Thelma (Theodore), Lindon, and Tanya (Oniel); 18 grandchildren: Richard, Marcia, Sherika, Anecia, Emerson, Cassandra, Roan, Nadine, Kerri, Everett, Maria, Brianna, LaQuoria, Jamar, Jeremy, Kerri, Alaysia, and Asyia; Seven great-grand children, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
