Fred was born to the late Booker T. Smith and Bertha Mae Smith on April 27, 1947 in West Palm Beach, Florida.

Fred was affectionately known as "Dee" to his family and friends. Fred attended Crist County School District in Cordele, Georgia. Fred was employed with Co-Op Sugarmill for 30 seasons until his retirement in 2015.

On June 20, 2020 Fred entered eternal rest. Fred is preceded in death by his two sisters, Easter and Mary Smith.

Fred leaves cherished memories with his loving wife Marteel of 40 years; three kids: Fredrick (Michelle), Candice, Terrance; three devoted stepchildren: Roderick (Lashunda), Cynthia (Ronnie), Marta (Gary); three sisters: Ella Everett, Ruth Mae Smith, Shirley Greer; one brother:  Charles (Victoria); one sister-in-law: Lucinda Hood; sixteen grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends
