On March 6, 1919, the Lord blessed Henry and Essie Mae White Stevens with a daughter, Frances Mae Stevens-Powell, born in Bartow, Florida. The family relocated to Belle Glade, Florida in 1941. To provide for her children she worked for many years as an agriculture laborer.
She was educated in the Tampa Florida School System. Mother Powell confessed Christ at an early age. She was a member of Greater Union Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend Sim Nelson, Sr. where she remained a devoted member under the current leadership of Reverend Elder Charlie Reese until her death. Mother Powell was one of the Pioneer members of Union Baptist Church founded by the late Reverend Nelson in Bean City, FL.
She was joined in holy matrimony to Elford Powell and they were married for 52 years. She was the mother of seven children.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Essie Stevens; two sons, Charlie J and Henry G Williams; eight siblings, four sisters: Mattie Stevens, Katherine Stevens-Gordon, Susie Stevens-Foster, Mary Stevens- Daily. Four brothers: Rubin Stevens, Henry Stevens, Whitey Stevens and Bubba Stevens.
She leaves to cherish her memory a loving husband of 52 years, Elford Powell; five children: Flonisey M. Smith, Gladys (Johnny) Royal, Moses Williams, Roger L. Williams and Otis Williams; 58 grands; 126 great grands; 108 great-great grands and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
