Eugene Johnson was born on January 11, 1944 in Clewiston, FL.  He was the fourth child born to Callie and Nathan Johnson.  Eugene accepted Christ and was baptized at the age of 24.  Eugene grew up in the New Bethel AME Church in Clewiston, FL and later joined the Community Baptist Church, Antioch Baptist Church and Grace Christian Center Church after being transferred to Denver, Colorado in 1967.

Eugene attended Harlem Academy and graduated Salutatorian of his class in 1962.  He continued his studies at Gibbs Junior College and Florida A&M University and entered into the United States Air Force in 1966; where he was Honorably discharged in 1970.  He furthered his studies from the University of Colorado, where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1978.

Eugene and Willie Mae Humphries married on December 29, 1965, and to that union was born one son Byron Johnson and adopted son Eric Johnson.

Eugene began his work career in Denver Public Schools in 1978, where he retired as a Supervisor of the Mechanical & Grounds Department in 2002.  He was a devoted Husband, Father, Son, Brother and Uncle.  He enjoyed spending time with family, playing Softball, Golfing and watching his beloved Green Bay Packers and other sports.  Eugene was called to eternal rest on July 10, 2021, at the Medical Center of Aurora in Aurora, Colorado.

He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Eugene leaves to cherish his memory a loving wife of 55 years, Willie Mae Johnson; sons, Byron and Eric Johnsons; sisters, Evelyn Johnson-Jackson; Carrie Johnson-Clay; brother, Nathan Johnson; niece, Heather Emerson, Nephews, Chris and Mark Terry; Elgie and Darren Johnson; great nieces, Deja Terry; Shakelia, Chamelle, and Maya Johnson; great nephew, Maurice Johnson, many cousins, and a host of beloved other relatives and friends.
