Essie Lee McCray was called home peacefully on May 5, 2026. She was born on March 28, 1950, in Tifton to the late James Davis Sr. and Carrie Lee Davis.

At a young age, Essie relocated to West Palm Beach, where she built a beautiful life rooted in love, family, faith, and service to others. She faithfully served as a Patient Care Technician at Good Samaritan Hospital for more than 25 years, dedicating her life to caring for those in need with compassion and kindness.

Essie was united in marriage to the late Harold Pittman. She was a loving and devoted mother to her daughter, Paulette Davis (Billy Blackmon) of West Palm Beach, Florida. She was also a proud grandmother to Cornelius Davis Sr. (Shamon Michel) of Belle Glade, Florida; Sonja Blackmon (Richard Jordan Sr.) of West Palm Beach, Florida; and Jessica Blackmon (Jerrod Moore Sr.) of West Palm Beach, Florida.

Her legacy continues through her cherished great-grandchildren: Cornesha M. Davis, Cornelius D. Davis Jr., Davarius C. Davis, Cornelian C. Davis, Damarion J. Manuel, Cor'Nelia D. Davis, Cor'Melia D. Davis, Richard D. Jordan Jr., and Ka'Mari D. Jordan.

Essie leaves to cherish her memories one sister, Emma Davis of West Palm Beach, Florida; and four brothers: Charles Davis (Karlene) of West Palm Beach, Florida; Willie Davis (Beatrice) of St. Petersburg, Florida ; Arthur Davis (Ann) of West Palm Beach, Florida; and Bobby Davis of Boston. She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and her devoted best friend, Iris.

She was preceded in death by her sisters, Yvonne Davis, Wanell Davis, Christine Davis, and Gloria Jean Davis; and her brother, James Davis Jr.

Essie was known for her infectious laugh that could brighten any room she entered. Those who knew her best will forever remember her wonderful sense of humor, her loving spirit, and the warmth she shared so freely. In her later years, she became more of a homebody who found joy in cooking, crafting, and watching old Western movies.

She was dearly loved and will be deeply missed as a mother, grandmother, sister, confidante, and friend. Though she may be gone from our sight, her love and memories will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew her.
