Elsie Burnam was born August 10, 1930 to the late Lillie Dublin and C.W. Weatherspoon. She spent her life in Okeechobee Center (The Project), where she was the oldest living resident. Elsie resided at 61 Bethune St. for 53 years. She outlived 13 of her siblings, her husband Burnie Burnam, and her son Leroy Burnam. Elsie was a Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. She loved the Lord and served him with dignity and pride. Her name was called on March 29, 2025, and she said, "Here I am, Lord." She will be truly missed.

Today, we gather with heavy hearts to remember and celebrate the life of a truly special woman, Elsie Mae Burnam, known to most simply and lovingly as "Granny". Granny wasn't just a grandmother in a traditional sense, she was everyone's Granny. Her warmth, her presence made her a safe place in a sometimes-unpredictable world. Whether you were family by blood or just someone lucky enough to cross her path, she made you feel loved, welcomed, and important. She had a way of making everything feel like home-whether it was through her comforting words, the way she always seemed to know just what someone needed, or the gentle humor she sprinkled into every conversation. She didn't need grand gestures to leave a mark. Granny touched the lives of so many- not by doing anything flashy but simply being who she was, a sweet, steady light in this world. Even now, though we feel the pain of her absence, we know that her legacy lives on. It lives in the way we treat others with kindness, in the memories we hold dear, in the stones we'll pass on to the next generation. She showed us how to live with grace, how to care deeply, and how to love without conditions. We'll miss her smile, we'll miss her embrace, we'll miss her presence in all the little moments. But more than anything, we will carry her legacy forward by continuing to love as she did.

Rest peacefully, Granny, you were one of a kind, and you'll never be forgotten.
