Obituary

Dennis Ralph Powell age 80 son of Mavis Harvey and Johnson Powell was born on February 09 1941 in Lorimers, Trelawny, Jamaica.  He departed this life on January 19, 2022 at the Lakeside Hospital in Belle Glade Florida.

Dennis was given the opportunity to travel on the farm work programme in the 1970s and worked on numerous farms picking apples and cutting sugar cane. After many years of being in the cane fields and apple farms he was given the opportunity to work at Okeelanta Sugar factory as a tractor driver until his retirement in 2006. In his retirement he enjoyed taking his grandchild Chelsea to school, mowing the lawn and taking his wife shopping.

Dennis married his wife Joyce of 51 years on July 10, 1971 at Bryce United Church, Manchester Jamaica. This union produced seven children: Patricia, Carol, Carleen, Denise, Annette, Donna and one son, Mark.

Dennis was a firm believer in education and so he ensured that all his children acquired a good education as his mantra was "Education was the only way out of poverty".  So his encouragement to his children was to take their books.

Dennis was baptized into Seventh Day Adventist Church in 1972 and became an ardent committed member up unto his death. He was faithful to the cause of God and tries his best to be at every church activities and functions. He always seized the opportunity to talk about his Lord.  He has embedded in his children to follow the same path "seek first the Kingdom of God and all his Righteousness".  Although he did not receive a formal education he loved his Bible and had a strong faith in God.  He loved helping people nothing was too good for him to share with his children, friends and neighbours. He was a loving and jovial husband and father and firm believer in giving up his right for peace sake.

He leaves fond memories in the heart of his Wife Joyce, Children: Patricia, Carol, Carleen, Denise, Annette, Donna and Mark. Grandchildren: Kietcham, Shawnette, Jordan, Jordaine, Kedar, Jhanielle, Jhada, Kimberly, Breeanna, Chealsea, Janice, six great grandchildren, one sister Betty, one Daughter-in-law and five Son-in-laws, close friends to include Jean and Bro.
