David J. Burden entered this world on November 24, 1956 as the first born of four children to Eugene Burden and Rose I. Burden in Belle Glade, Florida. David, aka Shooby was formally educated in the public schools of Palm Beach County, and graduated from Glades Central High School in 1974. After completing high school, he served his country honorably for 7 years in the United States Army before returning to the Glades to work at the family business "Burden's Texaco." David later worked for the United States Postal Service, where he spent 27 years as a mail carrier.
David joined the Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church of Ritta Village at a young age under the leadership of Rev. Floyd Key. He was appointed a Deacon and Sunday School Superintendent at Mt. Olive by Rev. Dr. Eddie J. Walker, and served faithfully in many capacities under both Pastor Walker and his nephew Rev. Dr. Randy L. Burden Jr. until God called him from labor to rest.
David was a God fearing man who was devoted to his mother, dedicated to his family, and faithful to his friends. David was the glue that kept the Burdens, Catos, and Singletons together after many of the older patriarch went home to be with The Lord. He was especially proud of the accomplishments of his nieces and nephews, and would attend many of their school, athletic, and community events.
On Thursday, July 23, 2020 at Lake Side Medical Center in Belle Glade, FL, Deacon Burden heard the voice of Jesus saying, "Come unto me and rest. Lay down thy weary one. Lay down thy head upon thy breast." He was preceded in death by his father (Eugene).
