Obituary

Mr. Charlie Lewis Broughton Sr. was born on May 13th, 1939, to James and Nellie Mae Broughton in Madison, Georgia. In 1947, the Broughton family moved to Clewiston Florida, where Charlie Broughton Sr. spent most of his adult life.  At the age of 18, Charlie Sr. enlisted in the United States Army, where he took to amateur boxing, then eventually ended his proud military service in 1959.
Later in 1959, Charlie Sr. returned to Clewiston, Florida, and went on to marry Ms. Lizzie Mae Battle who bore him five sons. She would always proclaim, "Charlie Broughton is a hardworking man and an excellent provider for his family". In 1976, Charlie Sr embarked in a new chapter in his life with Ms. Diane Ward who bore him three more fine sons. In 1983, Charlie Sr. married Ms. Mary Ann Shipp and they remained together until her passing in 2016.  Prior to this union, Princess Rethema, the only girl child, made her way unto the world, and became the heart of Charlie and all her brothers.
At a very early age, Charlie Sr. was determined to work hard to help support his family, especially after the death of his father, James Broughton. His unmatched work ethic and passion to provide for his family, became a model for his future children and grandchildren.  Charlie Sr. retired from an impressive 40+ year career at several top truck hauling companies, with Rinker Material being the company that he devoted 23+ years of excellent service.
Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?  ~John 11: 25-26
And celebrating his home-going he leaves behind his children; Charlie Lewis Broughton Jr., Ronnie Lee Broughton, Calvin Curtis Broughton, Darren Leon Broughton, Lou Cepeda Broughton, Charles Broughton, Charlie Broughton lll, Cornelius Ward, James Ward and Rethema Delancey. He also reared and embraced into his home four more sons, Lorenzo Boyd, Bennie James Battle, Maurice Wilson, Terrell Shipp, and Ricky Manuel. He was also survived by a great multitude of grandchildren and great-grandchildren who love him very dearly.
Mr. Charlie Broughton also had the privilege of having many siblings; Mrs. Opienell Hunter, his twin sister Mrs. Annie Kate McCray, Mrs. Evelyn Butler, Mrs. Gloria Brooks, Ms. Callie Broughton, Mrs. Helen Griffin, Ms. Agnes Broughton, Mr. James Broughton Jr., and Ms. Betty Broughton.
